In this post we will learn about common greetings in daily
conversations or we usually say it in small talk in Japanese. They are pretty easy to remember, can’t wait
to hear you speak in Japanese ^_^
Aisatsu . あいさつ。 Greetings.
- Ohayō. おはよう。 Morning.
- Ohayō gozaimasu. おはようございます。 Good morning.
- Konnichiwa. こんにちわ。 Good afternoon.
- Konbanwa. こんばんわ。 Good evening.
- Oyasuminasai. おやすみなさい。 Good night.
- Sayōnara. さようなら。 Good bye/ bye bye.
- Arigatō. ありがとう。 Thank you.
- Arigatō gozaimasu. ありがとうございます。 Thank you.
- Sumimasen. すみません。 Excuse me/ sorry.
- Onegai shimasu. おねがいします。 Help me please.
- Aikawarazu, genki desu. あいかわらず、げんきです。 Just like usual, I am ok.
- Daijōbu desu. だいじょうぶです。 No problem/ it’s okay.
- Dō itashimashite. You're welcome.
- Dōmo arigato gozaimasu. Thank you so much.
- Dōmo sumimasen. I am so sorry.
- Dōzo. どうぞ Please.
- Dōzo kochira e. Come here, please.
- Dōzo yoroshiku. どうぞよろしく. Nice to meet you.
- Gochisōsama deshita. Thank you for the food (we say this after having meal).
- Gomen nasai. I am sorry.
- Hai, genki desu. Yes, I am good.
- Hai, okagesama de genki desu. Yes, thank’s to you I am okay.
- Hontō desu ka. Really?/ is that true?
- Hajimemashite. はじめまして。 Introduced,...
- Iie, genki ja arimasen. No, I am not feeling good.
- Irasshaimase. Welcome (usually said by shopkeeper).
- Itadakimasu. いただきます。 Enjoy the food (is said before eating).
- Itte irasshai. Be careful on the way. Bye.
- Itte mairimasu. I am leaving. (is said when we leave the house).
- Ja, mata/ Mata ato de. See you later.
- Ja/ Soredewa. If that so.
- Matane. See you later.
- Kochira koso. こちらこそ。 Your welcome.
- Komatta na! That’s bad, isn’t it?
- Kotaete kudasai. Answer it, please.
- Mata aeru/ashita. See you/ see you tomorrow.
- Mata kimasu. I will come again. (usually said by a buyer when he leaves the shop without buying something).
- Mō ichido itte kudasai. Say it again, please.
- Moshi moshi. Hallo (in the call).
- O-genki desu ka. How are you? Are you okay?
- Okaerinasai. おかえりなさい。 Welcome home. (is said by people in home).
- Omedetō gozaimasu. Congratulation.
- Osakini shitsurei shimasu. I am sorry, I’ll leave now/ earlier.
- Osoku natte sumimasen. I am sorry, I am late.
- Shibaraku desu ne. Long time no see/ haven’t see you for a long time.
- Shitsurei shimasu. Sorry, excusme.
- Sou desu ka. そうですか。 Oh, like that.
- Tadaima. I am back. (usually said when you get home)
- Tsukaremashita. I am tired.
- Yukkuri hanashite kudasai. Say it slowly, please/ more slowly please.
- Zannen desu. ざんねんです。 Unfortunately.
